About
3D_PRINTLAB is a London based hub of 3D printing ideas and innovation.
We believe we are on the cusp of a new industrial revolution which will put manufacturing back into the hands of individuals and communities. We're here to speed this up, try out new things and bring this exciting technology out of the laboratory and into the community.
The Lab was founded in 2012 by Something & Son LLP with support from the Manor House Development Trust, Hackney Council and Inition.
We're starting close to home by working with the residents of Woodberry Down & North-East Hackney in London. Exploring how high-tech 3D printing can help them fix, make and manufacture the things they need. Can we can we fix a washing machine by printing out spare parts? Replicate a much loved heirloom? Or create local souvenirs? What can be manufactured here that is currently imported? Everything we learn will be showcased through this website, where we’ll encourage a global audience to share new ideas and know-how.
What is 3D Printing?
3D printing enables thin layers of printed material to be built up layer upon layer to create a solid three dimensional object. This means real solid objects like cups, cogs, knobs and clogs can now be printed out at the press of a button.
